They say that we've only explored 5% of the ocean floor.  Perhaps it would be best if we didn't look too far, eh?  Lovecraft might have said that his work was never meant to be interpreted as anything other than fantasy, but you never know...

Epic work here, giving Cthulhu all of his mysterious, sinister appeal and completely realizing how screwed his most recent discoverers are.  I just have one question: in the background, bottom left quarter, there are some vague shapes in the water that don't look organic; the explorer's ships, maybe?  I'm just curious as to why they would be all the way over there, if that's what the shapes are; if they're not the explorer's ships, then what are they?

And yes, I realize that it's kind of crappy of me to accept Cthulhu and futuristic deep-sea divers, but get antsy over some black stuff in the background.  Humor me.  ^^;

that was actually some architecture from the city of R'lyeh. they found the city and i guess curiosity got the best of them. hope that answers your question :)
